With a deco flair, the Maxwell Hotel is a stylish restored masterpiece in the heart of Union Square. The hotel's location provides easy access to the city's lively theater and high end shopping districts. With credit cards burning, guests can walk to Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Tiffany, Nordstrom and other fashionable boutiques. In fact, the Maxwell's unique services and amenities are designed with shopping in mind: guest rooms are stocked with shopping bags and the hotel publishes Sophia's Shopping Picks, a list of tips for acquisitive shoppers. What's more, the Maxwell stands only a block from cable cars that whisks riders to Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown and North Beach. Four blocks away, the Bijou, one of the Maxwell's siblings, shows San Francisco based films each night in its Petit Theatre.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, for a true deli experience, guests should stop by Max's on the Square, which specializes in New York deli cuisine. In addition, guests can use an Internet kiosk below the main staircase or launch into cyberspace using complimentary wireless Internet access throughout the lobby and high speed access in their rooms. The Maxwell's 153 guest rooms include original art deco architectural features complemented by richly patterned, contrasting fabrics, Edward Hopper prints and warm tones of rose and sage green.
Dating from 1908, the Maxwell, one of the dozen or so Joie de Vivre boutique hotels in San Francisco, welcomes leisure and business travelers intrigued with the location in the shopping and theater districts.
Guests are given a rose upon check in.
