Completed as a royal residence for the Count of Rochefoucald in 1854, the twelve turrets of this magnificent, 150 foot high limestone chateau overlook the small village of Challain De Potherie in the Western Loire Valley region. Ornate antique furnishings, four poster beds swathed in lavish fabrics and lake views are common to the property's suites, all of which have been individually designed to reflect its royal heritage and present many original features. Lunch and dinner may be reserved in advance and taken under the hand painted ceiling of the royal dining room. The haute cuisine menu draws on fresh regional produce, thus offering guests the chance to sample flavors of the Loire Valley.
