Jaffa
Visitors' Centre
Jaffa
is a popular tourist destination
because of its beautifully restored
old quarter filled with galleries,
shops and restaurants. As visitors'
centres go, this is quite impressive.
It is in fact a historical museum
and archaeological site. Plaques
along the walls of the subterranean
space provide highlights of
Jaffa's long, colorful history. |

Caesarea
is the largest archeological
site in Israel, where mosaics,
bathtubs, artifacts and a village
from the Crusader period are
to be found. Caesaria also hosts
Ralli Museum of modern art.
The site is commercialized with
many cafes, restaurants and
souvenir shops. |

Beach
Bograshov
Beach has lifeguards and a small
promonotory, which is great
for sitting to catch the sunset.
There is a plaque on the promonotory
which notes that on this spot
the British gunned down a boat
with 930 passengers on board
during the Mandate period. |

Bialik
House
Bialik
House was the former home of
Haim Nahman Bialik, Israel's
national poet. The building
combines eastern and western
styles and features beautiful
tiles made at Bezalel. It includes
original furniture, a 1,000-volume
book collection, and dozens
of paintings by the most prominent
artists of Bialik's time. |

Independence
Hall
This was
the former home of Meir Dizengoff,
the city's first mayor and served
as the first site of the Tel
Aviv Museum. It was in this
historic house that the independence
of Israel was declared on May
14, 1948. This particular museum's
starkness perhaps best provides
an accurate representation of
both pre and post-War of Independence
days of 1948. |

Neve
Tzedek
This beautiful
neighborhood, situated south
of the Yemenite Quarter. It
serves as the city's most stylish
zone, a home for Israeli artists
and yuppies. The gorgeous architecture
of the old houses, packed within
quiet narrow lanes, and the
relaxed manner of the neighborhood's
residents, make it highly recommended
spending a delightful afternoon
around the area. |
