Kingston
the capital of Jamaica is located on
the southeastern coast of the island
country. One of the leading ports of
the West Indies, it exports sugar, rum,

and clothing manufacturing. The city
spreads north from the harbour as far
as the foothills of the famous Blue
Mountains - impressive peaks that form
a glorious backdrop to the whole. |

Port
Royal
Port Royal
was the center of shipping commerce
in Jamaica until an earthquake
on June 7, 1692 largely destroyed
it, causing two thirds of the
city to sink into the Caribbean
Sea. Many artifacts have been
recovered and are displayed
in the Port Royal Archaeological
and Historical Museum. The Jamaican
government has recently resolved
to further develop the area
for its historic and touristic
value. |
