The Kaibab National Forest is part of the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest in the United States.Vegetation on the forest varies by elevation and exposure. Large wild animals commonly seen are elk, mule deer, and antelope. Frequently observed birds are bluebirds, robins, nuthatches, flickers and other woodpeckers, various hummingbirds, Steller's jays, crows, ravens, and a variety of hawks.

Tusayan Ruins and Museum
Ruins of a small Anasazi village, dating back to the late 1100s, tells visitors with a brief history lesson of how some of the early settlers in this area lived. Paved walking paths wind through the pueblo excavation and there is a small museum.
