Cappella
Colleoni
Cappella
Colleoni was a Bergamese condottiere
who fought for Venice to maintain
the Venetian stronghold on
the city. The chapel is a
masterpiece of Lombard art,
a fabulously ornate building
completed in 1476. Colleoni
himself is commemorated by
a statue astride a gold charger,
atop an elaborate two-tiered
tomb.

Basilica
di Santa Maria Maggiore was
the first roman church dedicated
to the dogma of divine maternity
of Maria. The finest works are
the choir stalls, with rich
wood inlays depicting landscapes
and biblical scenes, they're
the creation of Lorenzo Lotto,
the Venetian who worked in Bergamo
in the early 16th century. |

Museo
Donizettiano the Donizetti Museum,
born in Bergamo in 1797Gaetano
Donizetti is one of Bergamo's
most famous sons. Fans can swoon
over his sheet music, piano,
and other memorabilia and see
the deathbed where he succumbed
to syphilis in 1848. Bergamo's
main theatre is dedicated to
the composer and every year
a popular opera season. |
