Evelynton Plantation
Evelynton
Plantation was originally part of William Byrd's Westover
Plantation and was named for his daughter, Evelyn. In 1847
Evelynton was purchased at auction by Edmund Ruffin Jr.,
namesake of the famed Virginia agriculturist who fired the
first shot of the Civil War at Fort Sumter. The elder Ruffin
is credited with reviving Virginia's agricultural economy
in the early 19th century. His significant contributions
earned him the title, father of American agronomy.

funpark offers Free admission and parking and a "pay
as you ride" policy for go karts, etc. Go Karts Plus
is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg

the ghosts of colonial past come to the present to spook

scripted show performed around a five entree all-you-can-eat
dinner buffet.
Festival Williamsburg

more than a dozen performances including symphonic masterpieces
Carmina Burana, and the classical guitar artistry of JoAnn
Falletta. This is an exciting musical event for the entire
family as well as the closing event for the Virginia Arts
Festival.
Jamestown, the Original Site
On
May 13, 1607, 104 English men and boys landed here to carve
a small settlement out of the wilderness. You can still
experience some of what those early settlers encountered.
At the National Park Service Visitor Center, a 15-minute
film, exhibits and tours will help take you back to Jamestown's
beginnings.
Williamsburg Quilt Festival Week
A
compilation of four exciting quilting, fiber arts, and wearable
art shows. In all, more than 500 quilts, wearables, dolls
and textiles on exhibit; workshops, lectures, and special
activities offered; four Merchant Malls with more than 140
vendors.
Waterman's Museum
This
museum takes as its mission the preservation of the heritage
of the Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay--- to interpret their
culture and their contributions to the region, to provide
and support educational opportunities, and to preserve and
enhance the environment of the Chesapeake Bay.

has a very moderate climate with a long spring and a long
fall. Temperatures rarely drop below 60 F/16 C between April
and October. July and August are the two rainiest months,
averaging about 5 in/13 cm of rain each. This makes for
a very humid summer, with temperatures often swelling above
90 F/35 C.
The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF)
is 17 mi/27 km from the city. Taxis, as well as Williamsburg
shuttle services, are available at the airport. Major airlines
also serve the area at Norfolk International Airport (ORF),
which is about 45 mi/72 km from Williamsburg, and Richmond
International Airport (RIC), which is about 50 mi/80 km
miles from Williamsburg.
