| St.
Pete Beach’s National Register Historic District is
located at the southern end of the city between 1st Avenue
and 32nd Avenue in Pass-a-Grille. Pass-a-Grille was the first
town established on Florida's west coast barrier islands and
became a part of St. Pete Beach in 1957. The two-block wide
peninsular Historic District, bounded on the west by the Gulf
of Mexico and on the east by Boca Ciega Bay, encompasses about
90 acres and includes over 360 contributing structures, two
city parks and 28 locally designated historic structures,
including the city’s first homestead, built in 1886
by Zephaniah Phillips.
The
District includes the Gulf Beaches Historic Museum and the
8th Avenue business district, with its many shops, restaurants
and lodging facilities. Pass-a-Grille also has the longest
section of undeveloped public beach in Pinellas County.
Finally, just a few blocks north of the District, is the
site of the legendary "pink palace", the Don CeSar
Resort Hotel, which is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
