Ski Resort
Heavenly
Ski Resort offers the highest elevation at Lake Tahoe at
10,040 feet. This resort has over 4,800 acres available
for skiers, the most on the West Coast. Heavenly also features
the Longest Mountain Descent on the West Coast at 5.5 miles.
The
resort features eighty-six runs, and 29 lifts. The resort
also features high-speed lifts and a 50 passenger aerial
train.
Sierra-at-Tahoe
Sierra-at-Tahoe is located just a short 12 miles west of
Lake Tahoe and the South Lake Tahoe community. Known for
its convenience, great value and diverse weather protected
region, suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all ability
levels. From the area's summit at 8,852 feet, guests can
enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and the Northern Sierra
Nevada Mountain range.
Tallac Historic Site
On
this site, newly rich Californians built summer palaces
in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Three shoreline
estates are open to visitors. Guided tours are conducted.
Some of the buildings are in the process of restoration.
There is a visitor center and an art gallery where artists
may be observed at work.
The
site is open dawn to dusk from Memorial Day weekend to Labor
Day. The site is on Highway 89 north of Camp Richardson.
Vikingsholm
Vikingsholm
is a famed house of Scandinavian architecture. Mrs. Lora
Josephine Knight purchased the property at the head of Emerald
Bay and Fannette Island in 1928. Before starting construction
of the summer home late that year, Mrs. Knight and her architect
traveled to Scandinavia to gather ideas for the construction
of the house.
